Doctors & Staff

Meet the experienced and friendly doctors and staff who make David J. Sterna, OD & Associates, LLC the leading provider of vision care products and services in Lorain.

David J. Sterna, OD Dipl ABO

Dr. Sterna began practicing optometry in 1985. His practice philosophy has always been to place the needs and care of his patients as his top priority. He received his B.A. degree from the College of Wooster while majoring in chemistry.  He also studied abroad at the Centro de Estudios Unidos Colombo-Americano in Bogota, Colombia.  Dr. Sterna then went on to obtain his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Ohio State University.

He was born and raised in Amherst, Ohio so it was natural that when it came time to decide on where he wanted to practice, he would choose his home town. Dr. Sterna  integrates the most up-to-date technology with traditional patient care to guarantee that his patients always receive the highest quality eye care available. In August 2011, he was granted Diplomate status by the American Board of Optometry, becoming one of the first optometrists in the United States to be awarded this distinction. He currently serves as the board’s ambassador to the state of Ohio.

Dr. Sterna recently became a member of the Johnson & Johnson Vision Care Innovation Speakers Bureau. As a speaker Dr. Sterna provides education and training for new and innovative Acuvue contact lens products to fellow eye care professionals.

Dr. Sterna has always maintained an active role in international relations as well.   In 2003 and 2005, he coordinated the medical business training for eye doctors visiting from Russia. This was coordinated with the Centers of Citizen Initiatives and the United States State Department. He was the coordinator for the Mexican Education Project grant for the Raramuri Indians in Chihuahua, Mexico which enabled them to expand their educational curriculum. He and his wife Dianna have hosted numerous exchange students from around the world.  In January 2015 together they will travel to Costa Rica with fellow Christans from Trinity Free Evangelical church to help remodel a church in Rio Azul.

When not practicing optometry, David enjoys gardening and photography. He lives in Amherst with his wife, Dianna. They have two sons and a daughter. Completing their family are three adorable dogs who sometimes serve as unofficial mascots for the office.

Dr. Lam was born in Vietnam and moved to the United States in 1980. She received her Doctor of Optometry in 1994 from Southern California College of Optometry. She also completed a hospital-based residency in ocular disease at the Wade Park Veterans Affairs Center and is currently a consultant.

To further her optometry, training Dr. Lam completed an intense candidacy process that earned her the prestige of becoming a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry in 2010.

Dr. Lam joined our office in April 2016 to provide personalized treatment services for contact lenses, dry eyes, cataracts, glaucoma, and other eye conditions. She takes time to actively engage in patients’ health care needs and enjoys enhancing their lives through better eye and vision care.

Dr. Lam is involved with her community. She has performed volunteer work with MedWorks providing eye examinations to underprivileged citizens in Cleveland. She has also participated in the Ohio Optometric Association program Realeyes providing eye care education to elementary school children. She is fluent in Cantonese and Vietnamese.

Dr. Lam is married and has two children. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, golfing, swimming, and teaching youth Sunday School.
